The One Tennessee State Park That Will Transform Into A Winter Wonderland This Year
Winter in the south always seems to be up in the air. Will it be a frosty, freezing winter? Will we get heaps of snow and sunshine? Will our days simply be made up of sleet and icy rain? The state of Tennessee can’t seem to make up its mind, year after year, but we always know what the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will look like: absolutely magical.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

Whereas most of the world goes undercover during the chill of wintertime, the Great Smoky Mountains are just gearing up for a season of snowy fun.

The topography becomes perfectly powdered with snow, which means that it's prime time for winter and snow hiking. The mountain range never gets incredibly chilly, but you'll want to bundle up for extended periods outside.

Cades Cove during the wintertime is also a real treat. It's a favorite spot for many, a beautiful place to visit, but the snowy landscape truly elevates the entire experience.

If you can catch a waterfall, they're also a lovely sight to see. Tennessee rivers and creeks don't tend to freeze over excessively, but you will be treated to an icy cascade. This photo is from Fall Creek Falls, another natural area that's beautiful in the wintertime.

You can also indulge in the fun at Ober Gatlinburg, which is Tennessee's only ski resort. You can choose to snowboard, if that's more your style, and the tubing hill is all sorts of fun for little ones.

There's really no better place to relax during the chill of the winter season than the Great Smoky Mountains. Indulge in a cabin for your family, sip coffee and fall in love with the beautiful scenery around you.

This is the kind of place you never forget.
On the other side of the state – the waaaaay other side of the state – you’ll find a historic food hall we simply can’t get enough of. Have you been?
