Barbecue is one of those things that is just in our blood here in Tennessee. We can never get enough of it; from the streets of Memphis to the mountains in the east, you know you are going to find some great barbecue restaurants in Tennessee. One regional restaurant has managed to stand out in a sea of delicious BBQ joints, and now has several locations. So if you haven’t tried it, please allow me to introduce you to Calhoun’s in Tennessee.
Back in 1983, Calhoun’s opened up their first restaurant with the confidence that they had something good to offer the world. The chance came when they entered the National Rib Cook-Off in Ohio. The judges agreed that what they smoked was special and they ended up winning the crown for the “Best Ribs in America.”
Coming home and bearing the proud new title, they went back to doing what they did best. These fall-off-the-bone ribs are still cooked the same way all these years later, and you can -- and should -- make a point to partake in these award-winning meats.
That's not all, though; there is a whole menu filled to the brim with succulent meats, from pulled pork sandwiches to beef brisket. Keep an eye out for exciting and ever-changing specials to try something new --even if you have visited before.
They now have several locations throughout east Tennessee. Each location takes on a distinct personality all its own. Some of them have lovely patios overlooking the water, and others mimic the historical significance of the land. No matter which one you choose, you will be treated with the same great service and delicious BBQ.
Calhoun’s is also very involved in their communities with special events and causes. An annual example is what they do for veterans. On Veteran’s Day, everyone who has served gets to eat free!
It is still hotly debated as to who has the best ribs in the state, but at the end of the day Calhoun’s in Tennessee has the title of the “Best Ribs in America.” So visit any of the locations for a unique experience and judge for yourself if their racks of ribs stack up with the rest.
