10 Epic Adventures You Can Have In Tennessee In A Day or Less
Tennesseans love a good adventure, and we certainly live in a place that offers opportunity after opportunity for some great adventures. The best part? Most of the great adventures in Tennessee don’t have to take any more than a day. From the mountains of East Tennessee to the flood plains of the Mississippi River in West Tennessee, there is plenty to do for anyone willing to take a day and go exploring. Here’s just a few options….
10. Visit Dollywood.
Dolly Parton's famous amusement park in the hills of East Tennessee is a great spot to visit for anybody in the state. Plus, you can do the whole park in a day, unlike Disney World.
9. Drive the famous Natchez Trace.
The Natchez Trace runs from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi, and you can do the whole drive out and back in a day. Or, if you don't have a whole day, you can do the Tennessee leg in half a day.
8. Take the train to one of Tennessee's wineries.
The Tennessee Central Railway operates a train that leaves on weekends regularly from Nashville to one of a handful of wineries east of the city. See the countryside while sipping on some wine? Sounds good to us.
7. Hike to one of Tennessee's stunning waterfalls...
Tennessee has tons of waterfalls, and they're all worth taking the time to see.
6. ...Like the breathtaking Burgess Falls.
Burgess Falls is one of the most beautiful in the state, if not in the nation. It's about a 1.5 mile hike from the parking lot, and since it's in Middle Tennessee, it can be a day trip for anyone in the state.
5. Canoe the Harpeth River.
The Harpeth River just West of Nashville is one of the most scenic waterways in the state, and there are plenty of companies in the area that offer canoe trips for a day.
4. See Rock City (or Ruby Falls).
Surely you've seen the million billboards on the way to Chattanooga advertising these two spots. They may get a lot of hype, but they're worth it, and you can do them both in the same day.
3. Explore the Great Smoky Mountains trails...
There's a lot in the Smokies from Gatlinburg to Cade's Cove. You can hike up to Mount Le Conte too!
2. ...Or see them from above via zip line.
1. Take a tour of Tennessee's famous whiskey distilleries.
Jack Daniel's is only one of many, and they all offer tours and tastings.
