Visiting small-town Tennessee is perhaps one of the sweetest experiences you can have here in the South. There’s just something about the kind folks and good food, sweet Main Streets, and historic downtown districts. The Volunteer State is full of opportunities no matter the time of year, but if you’re looking to cozy up come the winter season, then there are a few spots you may want to put on your list. The town of Savannah, Tennessee is tucked away a few hours from Memphis, and it's known for its stunning natural beauty and darling shopping areas. Come to experience the natural beauty of the riverfront, and bring your little ones to frequent the museums in the area.
Bell Buckle, Tennessee may be best known for its summertime festival roster, but during the wintertime the entire town decks out in holiday splendor. Come to enjoy a shopping experience along the town's Main Street and make sure you snag a bite to eat at one of the cafes, too! There's nothing like a sweet treat during the wintertime.
Franklin may not be a "small" town anymore, but it's still one of the coziest in the state. The historic downtown boasts 16 city blocks that are chock full of holiday cheer in wintertime and locally-owned businesses the entire year 'round. With bed-and-breakfast rentals in the area and upscale hotels, you can live out your small-town dreams just outside of Nashville.
The town of Columbia may seem to be a bit out of the way if you're traveling through Middle Tennessee, but its downtown area and southern hospitality go unmatched. Come for shopping and coffee, and make sure you visit during the city's monthly First Friday event.
Leiper's Fork is a leafy enclave tucked away just beyond Franklin, Tennessee. It's more of a place to stop than a place to stay, but the darling restaurants, boutiques, and cozy bed and breakfasts may just encourage you to spend the winter.
Gatlinburg isn't the most popular vacation town in Tennessee for nothing! The cheeky attractions and fun restaurants perfectly offset a mountainside that's chock full of cabins for rent. Gatlinburg is a great place for families to snuggle up during the chilly season, especially if they visit Ober Gatlinburg during their stay!
