This Tiny Shop In Tennessee Serves A Sausage Sandwich To Die For
If there’s one thing we know, it’s that Tennesseans love their barbecue. There have to be about three dozen restaurants around the state that claim to have the best barbecue there is, but there’s only one that claims to have barbecue “so good y’ull slap yo’ mama.” That distinction belongs to the one and only Germantown Commissary in the Germantown suburb of Memphis. What makes them so special is their hot links sausage sandwiches, which you might just have to try to believe.
Memphis barbecue has long been a destination food for people across the globe, but Germantown Commissary stands out from the rest. Outside of city center in Germantown, it's a bit far for most downtown tourists, but it's absolutely worth it.
The original Germantown Commissary was essentially a general store that operated in Germantown since the 1970s but was bought in 1981 and turned into the barbecue restaurant that it is today.
Germantown Commissary is known for their hot links sausages, which are split and grilled to absolute perfection. While hot links are more of a Texas thing, this Tennessee spot competes.
Arguably the best item on the menu is the hot links sandwich. It's the perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and the sausage adds a flavor and texture that you don't usually find in a barbecue sandwich. Plus, it's only $6.50 for the jumbo sandwich.
They also serve up some of the best ribs this side of the Mississippi, but is anyone surprised? We're not. Try them with a side of their famous "pig sticks."
If you don't trust us, maybe you'll trust the A-list of celebrities that have praised Germantown Commissary over the years. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Jack Nicklaus, and Cathy Bates are just some of the many famous people who have been drawn to the Commissary.
Can't make it to Memphis to get their barbecue? Germantown Commissary will ship their barbecue straight to your doorstep overnight. Find out more information at their website.
You can visit for yourself at 2290 Germantown Rd S. in Germantown, Tennessee. They’re open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. We’ll be ordering the sausage – you?
