The Tennessee BBQ Competition That Will Tantalize Your Tastebuds In The Best Way Possible
It can’t really be a shock to you that Tennessee is a bbq state, right? Memphis is known for their smoky meats and Nashville comes in as a close second for big city eats. That doesn’t even count our phenomenal mom ‘n pop shops scattered across the state, hiding southern natives who were born with bbq sauce in their blood. This year – this weekend, actually – one of Tennessee’s most well-known legacy names is throwing a bbq contest for the best of the best. Care to take a look?
Jack Daniel's is a name synonymous with Tennessee - it reverberates around the world, recognized for the whiskey distilled right her in the Volunteer State. Although Lynchburg is located in a dry county, that's never stopped the party from going on and on down here in the south.
Although we have you thinking whiskey now, that's not all that Jack Daniel's is about, especially in October. Why? Well, that's when the annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue is held, of course!
This year the event will be held on-site in Lynchburg on Friday, October 27th and Sunday, October 29th. It's predicted that almost 25,000 folks will show up this year, ready and raring for a delicious event that will fill their bellies and satisfy their tastebuds.
Every year, the tiny town of Lynchburg throws off the weight of its whiskey-filled reputation and dons an apron for the fight for The Jack Grand Champion. Barbecue has never been so heated, folks.
This year you'll find 67 US championship teams and 23 international teams in little ol' Lynchburg, Tennessee, vying for the coveted title. We may have small towns here in the south, but we sure have big names and the 7 individual category competitions sure do ramp up the heat.
There are 90 judges that are invited to pick a winner on an annual basis. From the "I Know Jack … about grillin’!" category to "Jack Daniel’s Shade Tree Cook-off", there won't be a break in the cookin' and a grillin' throughout the weekend.
The Jack Dash 7 Mile Run and 5K is held early on Saturday morning, and it's a great way to get your blood pumping and metabolism in overdrive before the celebratory affects of the day. Live music plays throughout the entirety of the weekend, drenching your bbq sauce-laden adventure with a bit of Tennessee twang.
This is truly an event that's aaaaall Tennessee, meaning you don't want to miss it. Events begin at 10am on Friday morning and stretch all the way through the awards ceremony on Sunday night, so there's plenty of time to make a fun schedule that works for you.
Pretty amazing, wouldn’t you say? You can find more information
