Remote & Secluded Camping in Wisconsin: 10 Off-Grid Campgrounds

What's a summer in Wisconsin without going camping? Last year, we profiled 10 awesome rustic camping spots in Wisconsin. We took reader suggestions and came up with a new list of 10 completely new camping spots you should check out this summer.

1. Mirror Lake State Park (Baraboo)

This picturesque state park is just a few miles from the Dells. The highlight is a clear lake surrounded by bluffs. There are 151 campsites in three separate campgrounds at Mirror Lake State Park.

2. Harrington Beach State Park (Belgium)

Harrington Beach State Park is 715 acres full of amazing opportunities for fishing, swimming, and hiking. There is even an astronomy observatory. There are a lot of primitive sites, but you will also find picnic tables and grills.

3. Potawatomi State Park (Sturgeon Bay)

Potawatomi State Park looks stunning year-round, and the 75 foot observation tower gives you such an amazing view that you can see across Green Bay. Campgrounds are fairly primitive, but there is shower/toilet access and dump stations are open a good part of the year. Check it out:

4. Perrot State Park (Trempealeau)

Perrot State Park offers one of the most awesome shots of the Mississippi, including one of the few mountains located on it. A super popular place to camp, you might want to reserve your spot ahead of time. Shower/toilet access is provided.

5. Brule River State Forest (Brule)

The centerpiece of Brule River State Forest is the 40 miles of gorgeous river. The camping spots are located right along the river. Talk about a scenic place to set up camp! Pease note: Camping along the Brule River and Lake Superior shoreline is strictly prohibited. You must possess a special camp registration permit before heading out to camp. This permit is free of charge and can be obtained from the Brule River State Forest station. Do this, and you're free to enjoy this lovely Wisconsin campground:

6. Big Bay State Park (La Pointe)

You might not think camping when you think Apostle Islands, but you really should. Big Bay State Park has a 1.5 mile beach to explore. There are 60 campsites here for you to set up camp at and be in prime position to kayak through sea caves the next day. Talk about jaw-dropping views:

7. Hartman Creek (Waupaca)

This 1,400 acre park is extra cool because the Ice Age Trail passes through it. It is located near Chain O' Lakes. Camping is a lot of fun. There are 103 family camp sites. There are also five group camping sites.

8. Roche a Cri (Friendship)

The strange name comes from the French meaning "crevice in the rock." Wow are there some awesome rock formations at Roche-A-Cri State Park! There is a 300 foot rock with Native American petroglyphs and pictographs. There are 41 rustic campsites for you to set up at.

9. Wyalusing State Park (Bagley)

Hike to the highest heights to see the stunning confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers. There are Indian burial mounds here, a canoe trail, and a number of places to camp. There are two large family campgrounds, an outdoor group camp and even an indoor group camp at Wyalusing State Park .

10. Mauthe Lake (Campbellsport)

This scenic lake is actually a part of Kettle Moraine North. There are numerous hiking trails as well as a pretty nice beach. It is a really great place to camp, and there are 135 mostly wooded sites for you to choose from. Each site has a fire ring and cooking grate and picnic table.
