Much like every other milestone this year, the upcoming holiday season will be different in Rhode Island. The good news is, it's still going to be absolutely spectacular. The acclaimed Newport Vanderbilt mansion The Breakers is hosting their first-ever outdoor holiday event, and it's shaping up to be amazing. Here's why you should get your tickets.
The Breakers is located on Ochre Point Avenue in Newport, and it's quite the local landmark.
The mansion is National Historic Landmark and open for visits all year (when current conditions allow).
The mansion was built as the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II.
It has a gross area of 125,339 square feet and a whopping 70 rooms.
Every year, thousands of Rhode Islanders come here to be inspired by the holiday decor.
The holidays are truly a magical time at the Newport Mansions, especially this one.
Indoor gatherings still aren't a good idea, but that doesn't mean we won't be able to celebrate the season -- things will just be different.
And this season's celebration is promising to be more spectacular than ever.
“Sparkling Lights at The Breakers: An Outdoor Magical Wonderland” kicks off on November 21 and lasts until January 10.
For the first time in its history, the exterior of The Breakers and its landscape will be decked out in festive lights, including 28 spruce trees strung with holiday lights along the two driveways. While this is a completely new experience, a lot of effort has been made by the same professionals who always decorate the mansion, so it's sure to be a wonderful and visually delightful experience.
The interior of the mansion will be decorated as well, but the focus will definitely be on the outdoor decor.
Both The Breakers and The Elms are participating, and the admission cost covers access to both.
We can't wait to see what this gorgeous outdoor adventure will look like. Learn more about Sparkling Lights at the Breakers and get your tickets here.
