Dome Airbnbs in Arizona are very popular, especially near the Grand Canyon. One of our favorites, Yö'ngö, offers unparalleled stargazing opportunities and feels lightyears away from the rest of society despite being located just 20 minutes from the South Rim.
Located just a short distance from the Hopi reservation, Yö'ngö - which means "cactus" in the Hopi language - is one of the most unique Airbnbs in Arizona.
This luxury, geodesic dome is a mere 20-minute drive from the entrance to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, but it feels like a whole different world in which nobody else lives.
With two queen beds - one on the ground floor and one in a loft - the dome sleeps up to four guests.
The memory foam mattresses and microfiber bedding will make you feel like you're staying in a five-star hotel - yet the atmosphere is so much more relaxing. There is also one full bathroom with a walk-in shower as well as an insulated outdoor composting toilet.
You'll find the minimalist décor to be a refreshing change from the chaotic, "more-is-more" attitude of the modern world. Even the phone charging station has a rustic look to it!
Amenities include all the cooking supplies you could possibly need, plus basic appliances such as a coffeepot, French press, mini fridge, and two burners.
Yö'ngö is powered by solar panels, and the air conditioner is water-cooled, so it won't get down quite as low as you're used to in a regular home.
Conversely, it does get rather cold during the winter, but the heater and wood-burning indoor fireplace will keep you nice and warm.
Guests can enjoy lots of cozy furniture, including two plush chairs and a dining nook that are perfect for stargazing.
Speaking of stars, you can see the entire Milky Way band from Yö'ngö!
No need for special equipment - the light pollution out here is so minimal that your own two eyes will do just fine.
Either enjoy the view from the patio or open the skylight curtain and window to take in the scenery from the comfort of the dome.
If it's nice weather out, you can also play a game of cornhole for some good old-fashioned American fun.
No matter what time of year you visit, Yö'ngö is a lovely, off-grid escape.
You will definitely feel renewed by the time checkout arrives.
