What do you love about Wyoming? Is it the peacefulness, the wide open country, or the impressive wildlife? While there's a lot to love out here, there are just a few Wyoming pet peeves that can ruin a true Wyomingites day. When you plan a visit, be sure that you never...
1. Pretend to be a Cowboy.
Leave the brand-new boots at home and forget about a bolo tie. If you've never had to work cattle, you really shouldn't show up wearing ranch wear.
2. Rave about Jackson Hole.
Yeah, yeah, the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. We get it, you went to the National Parks and thought you found a Wyoming hidden gem along the way.
3. Make a joke about Yogi Bear in Yellowstone.
The whole Yellowstone / Jellystone thing is overdone. We've heard every possible joke before, and none of them are funny.
4. Try to hang out with the wildlife.
Please be respectful and give bears/wolves/bison/moose their space! If it doesn't end poorly for you, chances are it could end poorly for the animal. We're on their turf out here.
5. Ask for a vegan option.
We're respectful of lots of lifestyle choices out here, but just be warned, it might be hard to find a vegan option in a state that's completely obsessed with steak, jerky, and burgers.
6. Complain about the weather.
Yeah, it's cold here! Learn to embrace it, because it's not going to change much. We also get a lot of snow... and our winter lasts for most of the year. We're cool with it.
7. Complain about the wind.
Oh, also, it's windy 24/7. Especially in the big open areas of the state, like Albany County, or Fremont County. We just get stronger the longer we live here.
8. Say that there's nothing to do.
We have millions of acres of preserved wilderness waiting to be explored. How could anyone be bored out here?
9. Lament Wyoming's landlocked state.
Sure, we might not border the ocean, but our state is far from dry. We've got the wildest rivers, scenic lakes, and some of the world's best trout fishing. You'll love being out on the water here.
