Since cities with a higher population are going to typically have a higher number of crimes, this data is based on per capita crime rates to give us a more accurate comparison of cities regardless of population size. The data is calculated based on figures from the 2019 FBI Crime in the United States report, which is the most recent one published.
1. Evansville: Violent Crime And Aggravated Assault
Evansville tops the list of the most dangerous when it comes to violent crime and aggravated assault. The town of Evansville is located in Natrona County and has a population of 2,910. Twenty-two violent crimes were reported making the per capita rate 76 while there were twenty aggravated assault crimes with a per capita rate of 69.
2. Sheridan: Murder And Non-negligent Manslaughter
Sheridan tops our list when it comes to murder and non-negligent manslaughter. Sheridan is located in its own county and has a population of 17,920. The per capita rate of these crimes in Sheridan is .56 with 1 reported crime, Rock Springs coming in second at .41 per capita and Casper coming in third place at .33 per capita.
3. Rock Springs: Rape
Based on rapes per 10,000 people, Rock Springs comes in at number 1. Rock Springs is a city in Sweetwater County and has a population of 24,431. It's known as the "Home of the 56 Nationalities" because of the influx of immigrants that came from all over the world to work in the coal mines. There were 20 reported rapes at 8 rapes per capita with Jackson coming in at a close second and Evansville coming in third.
4. Riverton: Robbery, Property Crime And Larceny-Theft
Riverton, known as "The Rendezvous City," unfortunately came in first in 3 categories. Riverton is located in Fremont County and has a population of 11,056. There were 3 robberies in Riverton making it a per capita rate of 3, 448 property crimes with a per capita of 405 per 10,000 and 399 larceny-theft crimes with a per capita rate of 361.
5. Wheatland: Burglary And Motor Vehicle Theft
There are more burglaries and motor vehicle thefts in Wheatland than in any other area in the state. Wheatland is located in southeastern Wyoming in Platte County and has a population of 3,657. There were 32 burglaries with a per capita rate of 88 and 12 motor vehicle thefts with a per capita rate of 33.
6. Thermopolis: Arson
Thermopolis ranks #1 when it comes to Arson. Thermopolis is located in Hot Springs County and has a population of 3,047. There were 3 reported arsons with a per capita rate of 10.
