All states have things that they're known for, and West Virginia is no different. Here are 15 ways that you'll always know someone is from the Mountain State!
1. You say hello to strangers as you pass them on the streets
There's no harm in being nice, and that's how we do things back home.
2. You know what a holler is...you might even live in one.
3. You know how to pronounce Hurricane
And you giggle a little bit when you hear a newcomer pronounce it like you would a tropical storm.
4. The only redneck jokes you like are about Kentucky.
Well, obviously.
5. You went to Marshall
You bleed green!
6. On one of your favorite days of the year, people gather to throw themselves off a bridge...
And they live to tell about it! Bridge Day in Fayetteville is one of the most fun days of the year.
7. You went to WVU
You're a proud Mountaineer who still cheers on the football team each fall.
8. You know West Virginia is its own state.
Well duh. You know this, but it seems like every time you leave the state you have to explain it to someone. And if want more person asks you how far you live from Richmond, you'll probably scream.
9. You were a knight of a lady of the Golden Horseshoe Society.
That's how good your West Virginia knowledge was in the eighth grade when you took that test.
10. You celebrate June 20 like its your own birthday
Or you at least get a Tudor's Biscuit or wish your neighbors happy West Virginia Day.
11. You cheered for Landau
You were so excited back in 2011 when a nice guy from Logan County, W.Va. won "America's Got Talent." But truth be told, with that voice, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. would have won your support, anyway.
12. You know how to say "Appalachia."
It's "Ap-puh-lat-cha" and never "Ap-puh-lay-sha."
13. You have a favorite Tudor's Biscuit.
No, who are you kidding? You have two or three favorite Tudor's Biscuits.
14. You loved going to Camden Park when you were a kid.
15. You love Myrtle Beach.
In fact you go there if you're going to any beach at all. Some times you run into other West Virginians while you're there. They don't call it West Virginia Beach for nothing.
