You don't have to live in Washington for long to realize it's a truly unique place. From our diverse landscapes to our quirky and fascinating facts, it's safe to say life in the Evergreen State is a one-of-a-kind experience. Here are just a few things that set us apart from the rest of the country.

1. First of all, we're the only state to be named after a president, so we've got that going for us.

And the first president, nonetheless.

2. Believe it or not, Washington is one of the safest states when it comes to natural disasters... that being said, we're surrounded by 10 volcanoes.

None of them appear to be erupting anytime soon, but you never know.

3. Speaking of volcanic eruptions, the volcanic ash from Mount St. Helens' 1980 eruption drifted east across the United States in 3 days and encircled Earth in 15 days.

That eruption was the most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history.

4. The only temperate rainforest in the continental U.S. can be found right here in Washington.

The Hoh Rainforest is on the Olympic Peninsula, and it's amazing.

5. Washington beer drinkers have some serious bragging rights.

The vast majority of the nation's hops are produced here.

6. There's a part of our state you can only get to by going through Canada.

Point Roberts is located on the southernmost tip of the Tsawwassen Peninsula, just south of Vancouver.

7. Washington is some of the country's biggest corporations.

Amazon, Microsoft, Costco, Starbucks... Washington’s entrepreneurial climate has made it a leading state for startups.

8. We have some of the cleanest air in the entire country.

9. Have you ever been to the Grand Coulee Dam? If so, you've seen the argest concrete structure in North America.

10. Washingtonians have seen a lot of UFOs. In fact, once, we were home to a real life Men in Black incident.

On June 21, 1947, Harold Dahl reported seeing six objects shaped like donuts floating 2,000 feet above his patrol boat. He took his boat to shore and captured several photos of the objects. The objects even released some strange debris, one piece killing his dog. Harold reported the incident to his boss, who went back to Maury Island to gather rock samples. While he was gathering the rocks, he said one of the airships came back, as if it was watching him. The next day, Harold was taken to breakfast by a man in a black suit who said bad things would happen if he told anyone about the story. To this day, the story is believed to be a hoax, but the two military intelligence officers investigating the sighting died in a car accident before they could complete it.

We live a good life here in the Evergreen State. In fact, most of us think Washington is the best state to call home.
