When you live in Maine, there are a few rules you must follow. Most of them are things you've probably been adhering to since childhood. But if you need a bit of a refresher, read through these and see how many you actually live by. They may be unwritten, but they're as good as law!
1. Love Maine. Period
Mainers have an unwavering love of all things Maine.
2. Wave at any car anywhere that might even possibly have a Mainer inside.
It might be a random Maine plate in the middle of Indiana or it might be a car on the road outside town, but you'll want to make sure you wave. It's neighborly!
3. Take the scenic route.
It's always worth it!
4. If you buy a snowblower, it won't snow the rest of the winter.
Trust us. And please, do us a favor, and go get one. We're hoping for a mild winter.
5. Buy it when you see it at Marden's!
It's almost a guarantee that you'll see something, decide not to buy it, change your mind only to find that it's gone when you go back. Trust us, it's not just a catchy jingle!
6. Don't throw it away...ever.
Mainers hold on to things. Eventually, someone will need that ONE thing and you'll have it tucked away in downcellah!
7. Find your friends and hold them tight.
Maine friendships stand the test of time and you'll know these kids forever.
8. Your closet must always be stocked for winter.
In Maine, you just never know.
9. Do not use a GPS.
The Maine Atlas and Gazatteer is the only GPS you need. Use it, love it, throw it in the backseat of your car to be stepped on and used over and over again.
10. No matter what, steer clear of any car with a Mass plate.
It won't end well. Most likely, it'll mean a whole lot of road rage.
11. Don't bother washing your car until summer.
Mud season is for real and it's just. not. worth. it.
12. Wear your heart on your sleeve...or on your shirt.
Maine roots are strong and we love to share the feeling! Check out this shirt by clicking here!
