It was the day after Christmas, 1996 when every parent's worst nightmare became a reality... a young daughter went missing, with no trace left behind except for a chilling ransom note requesting over $100,000 for her safe return. Hours later, the absolute unthinkable; the young 6-year-old girl was found in the basement of the family home, strangled to death after being struck by a blunt object. The case made international headlines and is to this day considered to be one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in Colorado history. The story I am referring to is, of course, the murder of JonBenét Ramsey and just what happened at 749 15th Street in Boulder.
Shortly after the murder of their daughter, John and Patricia Ramsey (along with their son, Burke) moved to Atlanta, selling the home to a group of investors for nearly $650,000. Through the years, the home has been bought and sold several times and was last listed in 2014 for a whopping $1.98M.
Nearly 20 years later, the case remains open with no new leads to report. Through the decades, fingers have been pointed at different family members (including her parents and older brother), convicted felons, and even an elementary school teacher who falsely confessed to the murder. No one may ever know just what happened in the basement of the 1920s-era home...
