If you love wine, you definitely live in the right state. California has tons of vineyards that create amazing, award-winning varietals. People come from all over the world to visit them, and we need only look in our own backyards. Here’s a fun wine trail that takes you to eight tasting rooms. You can walk this trail, sipping as you go!
Solvang is a quaint village known as the Danish Capitol of America, and it’s easy to see why. The shops, restaurants, bakeries and tasting rooms are housed in quaint Danish-style buildings. As you stroll through the streets of this adorable town, check out some of the other shops in between your visits to the tasting rooms.
Start your tour at The Good Life, where you'll sample wines from two vineyards. Baehner Fourrnier offers Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc. Brophy Clark specializes in Chardonnay, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel.
This winery mixes things up a bit. It's non-traditional tasting room is casual and relaxed. Winemaker Fleet Hamilton says, "We’re not pretentious, everything’s fair game – it’s all about producing great wine, not paying attention to ‘the rules’." This winery, with its brightly-colored labels, donates thousands of dollars every year to non-profit animal rescue groups - and its wine wins awards.
This little winery hand-bottles all its wine, and offers an array of varietals that includes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and more.
Please note, Presidio Vineyard & Winery is no longer in business.
Offering Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Viognier, this little vineyard uses sustainable farming techniques. Its wines are all certified organic.
This little tasting room is casual and friendly. Hang out with owner and winemaker Art Sevtap, where you can create art on the chalkboard and play with the guitars. Their motto is "Drink Good Wine," and they've got plenty of it.
Toccata's Italian varietals include Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Freisa, Muscat Cannelli, Muscat Orange, Nebbiolo, Pinot Gris and Sangiovese. Pick up some tasty imported Italian food while you're here, too.
