10 Undying Habits That Prove You Can Never Take Southern California Out Of The Southern Californian
Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like being a Southern Californian. Whether you grew up in this part of the state or you’ve lived here long enough to feel like this is home, we can pretty much all relate to these undying habits that are simply part of what comes with the territory when living in SoCal. Here are the 10 habits that prove you can never take Southern California out of the Southern Californian. How many of them can you claim to be true?

A true Southern Californian may call it SoCal, but we'll never EVER call it Cali. Even if we ever move out of state, that is one habit that will never change.

After commuting in SoCal, you quickly develop the habit of never paying attention to how many miles to a destination as us Southern Californians all know it's the minutes that matter. All it takes is one traffic hiccup and one mile can easily equal thirty minutes.


Living in Southern California means owning tons of flip-flops for every occasion. Casual flip-flops. Fancy flip-flops. Beach flip-flops. And yes, even around-the-house flip-flops. We pretty much love flip-flops and always will.

We also go there to do a work out. Who's up for some lunges?

When you live in Southern California, you get used to having a bottle of sunscreen handy every day of the year. In the purse. In the glove box. In the desk at work. We absolutely don't walk out the door unless we are slathered in SPF.

Walking barefoot on the beach in the wintertime is just a way of life for us in Southern California. Especially because winter feels just like summer in many parts of SoCal.

Once you've had Mexican food in Southern California, you'll find that it never quite hits the spot like it does in SoCal.

When you're a Southern Californian, there's nothing more natural than adding avocado to pretty much anything we eat. Even if it's not on the menu we'll ask for it as it's just assumed that every restaurant in SoCal has some fresh avocados laying around.

Southern California may be sunshine and blue skies all year, but that doesn't stop us Southern Californians from getting chilly. No matter what time of year, you can always spot someone from SoCal as they'll always bring along a jacket or sweater just in case the temps get below 70.

It's just a Southern California way of life to add the word "The" before all of our freeways. The 10. The 5. The 405. It's just one of those habits that every Southern Californian will never be able to shake no matter where else they ever live.
