Even though this trip doesn’t leave Los Angeles and covers just 43 miles of driving, spreading it over two days gives you time to really enjoy these landmarks, and not miss anything due to infamous L.A. traffic. Start your journey by making your way to the incredible Los Angeles Union Station, a designated Historic-Cultural Monument.

This beautiful structure opened in 1939 as Los Angeles’ main transportation hub, but it is so much more. Inside and out, Union Station is full of stunning architectural and design details. Step back in time as you explore the great halls and the palm-filled grounds.

Next, take a ride on the world’s shortest railway on the 1901 Angel’s Flight. This narrow 2.5-foot funicular railway connects Hill Street with the tiny station above. Two funicular cars, named Olivet and Sinai, run in opposite directions on a shared cable. The one-minute journey cost $1 and has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in L.A. At the top, California Plaza is a lovely place to walk around.
There is no need to drive to the next landmark. Head across the street from the bottom of Angel’s Flight to Grand Central Market. Since 1917, this food market has been a hotspot for food, produce, flowers, and more. Walk around and see if you can spot the few original vendors who have been here for over 50 years.

After lunch, you are headed to the heart of Hollywood to TCL Chinese Theatre, originally called Grauman’s Chinese Theater. There are parking structures and lots nearby, such as Standard Parking at 6922 Hollywood Boulevard. Make sure you have your camera ready as you check out the theater, and the almost 200 celebrity handprints, footprints and autographs in the concrete.

Your last landmark today is the spectacular Griffith Observatory. The hilltop location provides epic views of the Los Angeles basin, the Hollywood sign, and epic California sunsets.
