If you’re from South Dakota, you know there isn’t much to be scared of out here. But the few things that do evoke fear are serious and you definitely need to be aware of them.
During summer months, tornadoes can pose a serious threat in South Dakota. Thankfully the destruction caused by them is rarely severe. When it is severe, towns rally together to help those affected.
2. Severe weather.
In general, it's good to be aware of severe weather when it's happening. From thunderstorms to hail storms to snow, a lot can change when this weather strikes.
3. Car accidents.
There's no lack of car accidents in South Dakota. Especially with out of state drivers (eh hem, Iowa) in town.
Deer on the road can be a serious hazard when driving. Those from South Dakota know to look out for deer mostly at dusk and dawn and that they always travel in groups.
5. Farm equipment.
Most people from South Dakota know someone who has lost their life or at least a finger in a farm machinery accident. Working with this equipment is not for the faint of heart.
6. Fried food.
If the farm equipment and sever weather don't get you, the fried food definitely will. We have loads of yummy and irresistible fried food choices in SD.
Because our summers are so short, we like to spend as much time as possible outside while we can. This often leads to some awful sunburns. One sunburn itself isn't fatal, but get enough of them and you risk skin cancer.
