Do you crave some time away from the big city? While Sioux Falls is a beautiful city with good people, sometimes it is nice to step back and move at a slower pace, which is exactly what you will find in the nearby small town of Dell Rapids, South Dakota:
Located in southeast SoDak, Dell Rapids is a town of nearly 4,000 residents that may seem small on the outside but is packed with tons to see and do!
Named after the rapids of the Big Sioux River, Dell Rapids was once a Chicago, Milwaukee, and Saint Paul Railroad town that - despite the collapse of the railroad - remains just as busy today with its many downtown shops, restaurants, festivals, and other special events.
If you love history, you will love walking around historic Dell Rapids, which offers not only fascinating museums but many turn-of-the-century Sioux quartzite buildings that were constructed after a devastating fire destroyed the original downtown.
What is a South Dakota town without ample outdoor opportunities? Dell Rapids has those, too, via hiking and biking trails, lovely parks, a golf course, and the nearby Palisades State Park (pictured).
