You May Be Surprised To Learn Why So Many People Are Scrambling To Move To South Dakota
Have you noticed new faces around your neighborhood and community? No, your mind is not playing tricks on you, as more and more people are making their way to the Mount Rushmore State not only to visit but to put down roots. Why are so many out-of-towners scrambling to move to South Dakota? The answer may surprise you.
Those who hail from the Mount Rushmore State know that it is the best place in the country to live, and now out-of-staters are taking notice, too, thanks to our affordable housing and more.
According to a recent article from Kelo, "Realtors in South Dakota have seen a steady influx of people seeking more affordable housing and more personal freedoms by moving to South Dakota amid the pandemic," adding that our largest markets - Rapid City and Sioux Falls (pictured) - "have seen a rise in interest by potential home buyers from all across the U.S."
In addition to the lower cost of housing, the article notes other financial perks that South Dakotans often take for granted, including low property taxes, no state income tax, smaller towns and safer communities, and access to world-class outdoor recreation.
Whether or not the out-of-towners have a job in the state appears to no longer be an issue either, thanks to many companies requiring or encouraging telecommunication amidst the novel pandemic.
While more people are relocating for financial reasons, we cannot help but feel that they will quickly fall in love with their "Midwest nice" residents, as well as our delicious food and world-famous landmarks.
