You Won’t Want To Miss The Most Enchanting Christmas Display In South Dakota
Our South Dakota towns are full of spectacular Christmas displays and festive main streets that are sure to dazzle you. But if there’s one Christmas display you won’t want to miss in our state it’s “Christmas at the Capitol.” Featuring dozens of elegant Christmas trees in our ornate, historical, Capitol Building, this year’s 36th annual celebration will absolutely blow you away. If you don’t live in the Pierre area, this stunning display is well worth the trip.
“Christmas at the Capitol” is an annual magical event hosted from November 22nd through December 26th.
Decorated by talented non-profit organizations, communities, businesses, and government offices throughout the Mount Rushmore State, these trees are unique and downright stunning. Many of them were also decorated to commemorate organizations or to celebrate triumphs.
This Christmas tree was adorned by Sisters & Survivors Breast Cancer Group, Winner.
While you explore the 3 floors of Christmas cheer, you can also enjoy delightful music provided by volunteers and carolers. Various choirs, instrumental groups, and orchestras will be performing throughout the month of December.
Each year, “Christmas at the Capitol” hosts Pie Day, an annual event since the late 1990s. Visitors can celebrate with a complimentary slice of delicious pie along with coffee and a scoop of ice cream. This event runs from 11AM-3PM on December 10th.
This year’s theme is “A Monumental Christmas” hosted by Dennis and Linda Daugaard. Visit anytime until December 26th from 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM for a joyous and delightful holiday tour. View their site for more information.
