This Hidden Destination In South Dakota Is A Secret Only Locals Know About
South Dakota has some world-famous attractions. Folks come from all over to marvel at Mount Rushmore, and the tiny town of Sturgis fills with bikers during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. South Dakotans know that not all our best attractions are famous…some of the best are hidden gems, tucked away in the state’s most beautiful scenery. Here’s one spot you should definitely go…but shhhh…don’t tell the tourists!
You'll find Big Sioux Recreation Area just east of Sioux Falls, near I-90 in Brandon. It's one of South Dakota's prettiest spots.
The Big Sioux River winds right through this recreation area. It's perfect for fishing, and you can even check out fishing poles to use while you're here.
You'll want to see the suspension bridge over Big Sioux River. Take the Prairie Vista Trail, which makes a large loop through the area and across the river.
