The South Dakota Festival That Was Just Named One Of The Best In The World
Those of us who hail from South Dakota know what a gem this state really is, but it seems as though we are often overlooked and underrated by those who have never been here. That being said, we are always interested to hear what major publications have to say about the Mount Rushmore State, which is why we were blown away by the fact that one of our iconic festivals was named one of the world’s coolest:
Listed with the likes of Bastille Day (Paris), Cherry Blossom Festival (Tokyo), and Carnival (Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), Thrillist notes that "South Dakota may not have crossed your mind as a bucket list destination, but it’s home to one of the most American phenomenons you can ever witness."
Taking place the last Friday and Saturday of September, the Buffalo Roundup brings in close to 15,000 out-of-town visitors each year, making it one of the largest events of its kind.
In addition to just watching 1,500 buffalo go stampeding by, attendees feel the earth shake and hear the deafening sound of charging hooves, resulting in a true feast for the senses.
