It’s easy to live in South Dakota and start taking its natural beauty for granted. When you’re surrounded by endless prairie under big skies, the beautiful pines and mountains of the Black Hills, and the stunning rock formations of Badlands National Park, you tend to forget that not everyone in the country has these kinds of views. How about the mighty Missouri River?

The Missouri River is the longest river in the entire country, and it meanders all the way through our state. Along the river, you’ll find four lakes and dams, many towns and tons of beautiful parks along the banks. Locals define our state as “East Missouri” and “West Missouri,” and the river truly serves as a sort of boundary between the two unique parts of South Dakota.
