One Of The Most Beautiful Day Hikes In America Is Right Here In South Carolina
One of the best ways to experience South Carolina’s natural beauty is by getting up close and personal with it. Here’s a day hike that takes you to a pretty waterfall!
You'll find the Yellow Branch Falls Trail in the Sumpter National Forest. The trail is 3.5 miles out and back, and considered fairly easy to complete.
To find the trailhead, travel along west from Walwalla along SC 28 for about six miles. The trailhead is located at the Yellow Branch Picnic Ground.
The trail takes you up staircases carved into the hill...
...through lush vegetation...
...and over creek beds.
You'll likely encounter some wildlife, too.
You'll find quite a few of these blackbelly salamanders in the creek and near the falls.
Autumn is the perfect season for this hike, when the trees surrounding the trail are all dressed up in their finest fall colors.
At the end of the trail, you'll be rewarded with the 50-foot tall Yellow Branch Falls.
Make sure to have your phone charged or your camera ready - this waterfall is quite picturesque.
Areas of this trail can be slippery when wet, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes with good tread.
