Yesterday, we published the Lowcountry version of this Terrifying Road Trip and today we’re showing some love to the Upstate with a Road Trip of your own!
The Palmetto State is filled with truly haunted places thrill seekers have been visiting for years. We picked out eight terrifying haunted places with relatively easy access and created this easy to follow route. The total trip is 288 miles with an estimated six hours and six minutes of drive time. (You can add 6 seconds – if you dare!) We’ve included a link to the Google Map here. (One note: if you see a “No Tresspassing” sign, please heed the notice and don’t trespass; it’s against the law.)

This is the stuff nightmares are made of. Reportedly, after this church was abandoned it was used for a short while by satanists. Also, years ago there was a massive fire in this community and many people perished. The church has more than one graveyard and it is said that it also has one massive grave where the remains of the people who perished in that fire were laid to rest. Reports say that it's pretty common to see orbs floating over the graveyard in the day and at night and that you can often hear sermons coming seemingly from nowhere. Cry Baby Bridge in Anderson is said to be haunted by the spirit of an infant that was once thrown from the bridge by its mother. People have reported hearing a baby crying at this location - yet no baby was around.
In 1967 and 1968 the Gaffney Strangler, Lee Roy Martin, killed four women in Gaffney. Reportedly, one of the bodies was discovered next to a small bridge on Ford Road. Spirit Wind Paranormal Investigations visited this site and captured some very interesting EVPs.
Foster's Tavern was built in 1808 as a lodge and tavern. Although it's now a private residence, there is a legendary story dating back to the days when it was still a lodge. A man was staying here for the night and hung himself in one of the rooms; his horse then mysteriously disappeared. In recent times, there have been reports of the sound of hooves on the roof and strange sounds on the property. When you stop at Foster's Tavern please remember this is now a private residence, and you will be trespassing if you enter the grounds without permission.
The bridge on Ghost Creek Road in Laurens was the site of a tragic death of a newly married man on his wedding night. DO NOT turn your car off on this bridge. The word is that it will not restart.
Lydia Cotton Mill in Clinton, SC is seen in ruins in this photo, but it once was a booming business and a huge employer. In fact, back in the day there were homes for the workers at the mill right NEXT to the mill. In recent times people have reported a headless woman running around the mill, both inside and outside. 7. Keller Hall Bell Tower, Newberry College - Newberry, SC
The story of the Keller Hall belltower dates back to the Civil War. A female student reportedly jumped from the bell tower, killing herself, after getting news that her boyfriend had died in the war. Today, there are reports of screams in the area (the kind that aren't really there...). People have also reported seeing a woman in the bell tower.
All sorts of weird stuff has been reported at Rock Church. Strange sounds are heard late at night, including singing. Plus, grass won't grow near some of the older headstones, and people have reported seeing a white light circling the church in the middle of the day even though there was no fog or mist in the air. Definitely make sure your camera is charged for this stop!
