Every beach in South Carolina offers something different, whether it’s a view of the City of Charleston and Fort Sumter, a SkyWheel with spectacular views, or something else. And the same is true for The Sands beach in Port Royal. Here, visitors can actually drive their car right up on the beach.
If you've ever driven over to a beach in South Carolina only to find that parking is a pain, then The Sands is for you!
At low tide, parking at The Sands beach in Port Royal is a breeze. You can park right on the beach, or...
Park in a nearby sandy lot with a slightly higher elevation... and then walk out to the beach.
And this beach is primed for photos, with blue waters and (hopefully) blue skies!
A favorite spot among the locals, The Sands is rarely crowded.
The wide swatch of sand that covers the edge of Port Royal along Battery Creek is about 1,000 feet long and has plenty of room to spread out and enjoy a day in the sun and surf.
Right next door is the Port Royal Boardwalk, a.k.a. Henry Robinson Boardwalk.
This half-mile journey leads from the boat landing over to a five-story observation tower with views that go on forever.
Be sure to carve out some time to explore it while you're at the beach.
The Sands beach is open from dawn to dusk.
At nightfall, gates leading to the beach may be closed.
