Some seasons in the Palmetto State are just perfect for hiking! Get ready to dip into your closet for your hiking boots and then set out on the following trail that leads straight to a rare double waterfall in South Carolina where two creeks merge in the middle of the woods.
One of the most stunning sights you'll ever witness is the beautiful double waterfall known as Confusion Falls. The falls forms as two small creeks spilling out of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area converge at the very point where the falls drop to form a single creek downstream.
Little evidence exists as to how the falls got it name, but it could be the rather confusing paths you'll take through the woods to arrive at the falls.
Most folks who've made the trek highly recommend downloading the map from AllTrails ahead of the hike. Many trails cross throughout the area and it's very helpful to have an official map to help guide you, particularly on this hike.
And the trailhead is located on the grounds of the Ashbury Camp Retreat in Cleveland. The gates of the camp are open Monday through Friday beginning at 8 a.m., but if you're hiking this trail on the weekend, you'll want to call ahead (during the week) to (864) 836-3711 to get a code to open the gate on Saturdays or Sundays.
It truly is one of the most beautiful sights in the South Carolina wilderness!
Another bonus on the trail to Confusion Falls is you'll pass behind another amazing waterfall: Moonshine Falls! This 40-foot spectacle has the ruins of an old moonshine still scattered beneath the large cave like ledge over which the water pours.
