The Magical River Walk In South Carolina That Will Transport You To Another World
We in South Carolina share the Waccamaw River with our neighbors in North Carolina, where it begins at Lake Waccamaw and travels south until it converges with the Intracoastal Waterway near Bucksport, empties into Winyah Bay, and then flows past Georgetown to the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a blackwater river stretching for over 140 miles in total length. As the Waccamaw River travels through the state, there’s a magnificent river walk in Conway, South Carolina alongside the water that looks and feels as though you may have just stepped into another world.
Animal lovers will be delighted to see some of the Conway Critters around! These cute sculptures are 15 inches tall, scattered throughout the downtown area in 2017 as a scavenger hunt of sorts for children to have some fun while parents shop. Out of the eight total, three of them are along the riverfront.
The riverwalk path takes you beneath the historical Waccamaw River Memorial Bridge, built in 1937 to honor Horry County Revolutionary and World War I veterans.
Also situated by the Riverwalk is Riverfront Park, with a fun playground area for children. There are some picnic tables as well, the perfect spot for a snack or lunch and a little playtime.
