Paddle fans who haven’t explored the Little River Blueway in western South Carolina are in for an unforgettable treat. Found at the convergence of the Little River and Lake Thurmond (along the Savannah River) in northern McCormick County, the Little River Blueway lays out 51 miles of blue trails perfect for a paddling adventure in the Palmetto State.
Whether you have your own kayaking vessel, or need to enlist a tour service to get out on the trails in the Little River Blueway, this is sure to be an adventure to remember.
The enormous footprint of the Blueway ensures a wide variety of places to explore, from wide-open venues along the wide berth of the Savannah River to more narrow tributaries of Lake Strom Thurmond.
Consider making it a full day of water-based exploration and bring along a picnic. You'll find plenty of places along the shore that are ideal for pulling out of the water for a bite to eat and some rest.
The Little River Blueway spans so much territory it's not uncommon to have a little brush with the rest of the world on your paddling adventure. When you get to the Little River Quarry Bridge (seen here on Hwy 81), be sure to take your time scooting right under the busy thoroughfare so you can enjoy the echos of the vehicles crossing high above.
