14 Lies And Misconceptions The Whole Country Believes About South Carolina

Let’s face it, from politics to just about everything else, there are a lot of misconceptions about South Carolina, and a few unfair stereotypes about South Carolinians too. We’re not sure when or how these fallacies came to be, but let’s just roll up the sleeves now and put them to rest.

Here are 14 things about the Palmetto State that aren’t true, but the whole country believes:

1. It's just simpy not true that we wear flip flops ALL of the time.

2. Myrtle Beach is not our favorite spot for a "staycation."

3. Not everyone who says "Bless your heart" means it in a negative way.

4. We don't all bleed either garnet or orange; in fact, some people here don't even watch football.

5. It's not true that the only parts of the state that are beautiful are along the coast.

6. We don't spend every free moment somewhere on one of our beautiful beaches.

7. Not everyone in South Carolina drives pickup trucks and listens to country music.

8. Why does everyone think we only drink our iced tea sweet?

10. And that we all love and devour as many boiled peanuts as humanly possible...

11. ...or that, given the chance, we'd eat shrimp and grits for every meal, prepared in every way possible?

12. How come the rest of the country thinks that South Carolina has no mountains...

14. And lastly, the biggest misconception of all is probably that we're all uneducated.
