The Upcoming Peach Festivals Celebrate The Very Essence Of South Carolina, So Save The Date

Did you know South Carolina is the second largest peach producer in the country (behind California)? It’s true. And while our neighboring friends in Georgia lay claim to the moniker of the Peach State, peaches are the very essence of South Carolina. So it stands to reason we’d have a peach festival (or four) each and every year to celebrate the sweet goodness of not only the harvest season but also the beautiful period when the peach trees all over the state paint the landscape with bright blooms.

If you’ve never celebrated the peach, then get ready, South Carolina. You’ll have at least four chances to do so in the coming months with a variety of peach festivals taking place in towns all over the state where peaches and peach growing are a way of life. Pick your favorite, or attend them all. Here’s what you need to know about each:

It stands to reason that, in the Peach Capital of the World, the biggest event of the year is the annual Peach Blossom Festival. Taking place when local orchards are anticipated to be in full bloom, the festival features arts and crafts, a parade, and rides and games for the kids and adults alike. Johnston's Peach Blossom Festival embodies the full spirit found in this small town of approximately 2,500 residents. The 50th Annual Ridge Peach Fest is set to be the highlight of the year for the tiny town of Trenton (population, less than 200). Enjoy plenty of festival food, more than 100 arts and craft vendors, and all the peach desserts you can imagine. Now in its 62nd year, the Lexington County Peach Festival takes place on the Fourth of July in the tiny town of Gilbert (population, just over 600). Kick the day off with the annual parade, then enjoy browsing more than 100 vendor booths and also sampling endless sweet treats made with peaches. The event closes with a huge fireworks display. Typically taking place on the third Saturday in July, the South Carolina Peach Festival takes place in the hometown of the famous Peachoid water tower.
