Some people live in the Mount Pleasant area for years (decades, even) without knowing there’s an old bridge turned into a park right at the edge of the Old Village and perched on the Charleston Harbor. If you’re one of the many who’ve never experienced the wonder of this tiny little park and historic bridge location, you can see an incredible bird’s eye view in the video below – and then add a visit to the marvelous location to your bucket list for this summer.

Now known as the focal point of Otis M. Pickett Park, the bridge here was originally a plank foot bridge from Mount Pleasant to Sullivans Island.

In 1899, it was replaced with a trolley bridge that made crossing the water much faster and more efficient.

By the late 1920s, the need arose for vehicle access to Sullivans Island, so the trolley bridge was replaced with a drawbridge made of steel.
