The Hidden Island Off The South Carolina Coast That’s Perfect For A Remote Getaway
Most residents and visitors to South Carolina’s coast are familiar with the beach resort at the northern end of the Isle of Palms. With multilevel beachfront accommodations, restaurants, swimming pools, parks and bike paths, the resort welcomes scores of visitors each year. But what most don’t know is that the island immediately north of Isle of Palms is also available for a great vacation getaway and it’s exactly the opposite of the big resort on IOP.
Dewees Island is immediately north of the Isle of Palms and for years served as the private residence of just one family who occuppied the island from 1925 until 1952. The few modern homes on the island began springing up in the 1980s.
Today, this 1,200 acre paradise is a private island retreat, accessible only to the few residents who live or own homes here -- and to those who are rental customers of those residents.
The few homes for vacationing rental guests all offer up their own unique luxuries. Some have sweeping views of the tidal waters on the backside of the island.
Whether you head to this fantastic secret island getaway on your own for some alone time, or you bring the whole family, Dewees Island is that one hidden island on the South Carolina coast you're sure to love.
There's ferry from the Isle of Palms that has regular runs between the two islands. But NOTE: you won't be able to take the ferry unless you've been called in as a guest of an island resident or one of the rental companies that manage the leasing.
This remote island paradise is located only 11 miles north of Charleston - as the crow flies.
But it sure seems a lot farther away when you're there.
Did you know about this private island or that you can actually rent a house for a vacation here? Want to check into renting the perfect vacation home on Dewees? Contact Dewees Rentals at (843)906-0410. Follow their Facebook page here.
