It’s Not Christmas In South Carolina Until You Do These 14 Enchanting Things

Raise your hand if the holidays are one of your favorite times of the year. Christmastime is purely magical in the Palmetto State. In perfect years, the Upstate gets a light dusting of snow with no accumulation and folks in the Lowcountry wake to a chill in the air. But there are some things you can always look forward to doing during the Christmas season. In fact, it’s not really Christmas until you’ve at least thought about doing these 14 enchanting things in South Carolina.

1. Drive through one of the amazing holiday light displays in the state. You'll find a list of them here.

3. Pick up some new holiday decor to dress up the house. You'll find a list of great year-round Christmas stores here.

4. Make sure your wreath is the biggest, baddest wreath on the whole street.

5. Contribute to the annual Toys for Tots campaign.

6. Check out the official South Carolina Christmas tree on the lawn of the State House.

7. It's officially Christmas at my house the day I put up my tree.

8. You know it's Christmas when you've spotted Santa, or at least one of his stand-ins.

9. You know it's Christmas when downtown Greenville and Shelter Cove on Hilton Head open their ice rinks for the season.

10. Your neighbor turns on those lights he's been installing for the last three weeks.

11. It's Christmas when Swan Lake/Iris Gardens light their famous floating Christmas tree.

12. And Brookgreen Gardens lights 5,500 candles for the Nights of a Thousand Candles event.

13. You attend your neighborhood, town or city Christmas tree lighting.

14. And finally, the season just won't be the same until you've managed to erect a snowman in one way or another...
