18 Reasons Why South Carolinians Are Proud- And Rightfully So

As much as we complain about South Carolina, there are twice as many times we boast. And, we should! Forget about the humid summers and the winter ice; the raging drivers and the daily strife. We have so much to hold our heads high for and here are 18 reasons why we should be proud.

1. Our Southern Hospitality is legendary! Ask anyone, anywhere and they will tell you that.

2. We have some of the most beautiful beaches (as evidenced by how many tourists we get every summer!)

3. South Carolina has the best vacation spots and they have been host to a number of famous people. Even President Clinton had a love affair with Hilton Head, SC.

4. We are home and birthplace to numerous famous people. Too many to list!

5. Our golf courses are the envy of the nation!

6. South Carolina brought the country sweet tea which is a much beloved drink of the South and it's working its way across the states.

7. We have our very own watermelon, the Bradford, which is still happy at home in Sumter, SC.

8. Birthplace to the real ginger ale, Blenheim Ginger Ale.

9. You can smile every time you convert someone with the BEST BBQ ever!

10. We invented the Shag and it swept the nation. Now there are competitions held nationwide!

11. We keep the perfect balance between city...

and country! We are never far away from either at any given time which makes South Carolina a wonderful place to live and relax.

12. We can always be proud that one of our own, Astronaut Ronald McNair, reached above and beyond!

13. Anytime we watch a Clemson or

Carolina game. No matter who we root for, we are proud of both of them!

14. Our astounding scenery. And, that is not just our opinion just ask all those movie makers who chose our state because of the natural beauty and old world charm.

15. Anytime some drives a car or buys new tires because each and every one of them is made here.

16. Because we are not to be outdone as shown by Tim Montgomery who won a place in history for his 100-meter dash record of 9.78 seconds!

17. We endure.

18. No matter where you go or how far away, when you come back you realize that there is no place like home.

South Carolina's motto says it all: Prepared in mind and resources. While I breathe, I hope."

We have quite a few things to be proud of and this is just the peak of the iceberg. So, when you wake in the morning take a lung full of that beautiful South Carolina air and know that you stand on land that is rooted deep and stands tall among its peers.
