It’s that time of year when the children are out of school and the fish are jumping, so take them out and show them what a glorious time they can have catching fish. It’s not only a good time to have with your children; laughing, talking, bonding, but if you are looking for a relaxing getaway then it doesn’t get any better than pulling out the rods and reels, packing your bait of pleasure, and heading out to one of these 10 amazing fishing spots in South Carolina!
Trout is the fish you are going to mostly get here, but you will also get bass, bream, panfish, and catfish. The hotter the weather the better the catfish bite.
Care to try your hand at some fly fishing? It is truly an experience and difficult for me. However, if not you can use a regular rod and reel here too. What you're going to find in these waters are: rainbow trout, brown trout, and brook trout. Nothing better than fresh pan fried trout with a little lemon.
Looking for prize trout? Then fish here. Lake Jocassee holds the state record for the biggest rainbow trout at 11 lbs. 5 oz and brown trout at 19 lbs. 9.5 oz.
There are tons of smallmouth bass in this river waiting for you to throw out some bait but don't forget about the catfish, largemouth bass, and panfish as well.
Not too picky on what you are looking to fill your cooler with? Then this is where you might like to go. Wateree has all types of fish and all of them are pretty plentiful so if you like variety...
A lot of people put in at Steel Bridge, but there are other places boat, and you can even fish from the bank if you choose. You are going to find that this river has lots of red breast, trout, catfish, and largemouth bass.
Catfish may be ugly, but they are so good when I call them dinner!
I thought I would share a video of fly fishing on the Chattooga River.
South Carolina has some of the best fishing spots due to the cold water that we have despite the heat that we deal with in the summer. Fishing is a great relaxation activity whether alone or with someone else. So, go get some bait, pack those rods and reels (or cane poles if that’s what you like), get some sandwiches, drinks, a cooler and don’t forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, and get out there and go fishing! Let the water take away all that stress and fill your coolers with some good fresh food.
