Modern Diner Is A Train-Themed Restaurant In Rhode Island That Will Make You Feel Like A Kid Again
We all deserve to feel like a kid again at least every now and then. Remember the days when our biggest responsibilities were completing our chores and doing schoolwork? Recess was one of the best parts of the day – second only to the bell ringing at the end of the day. Channel those carefree childhood days, at least for a meal, when you visit this restaurant in Rhode Island.
Indulge in a bit of that childhood magic when you visit Modern Diner, in Pawtucket, a charming restaurant that sits in a Sterling Streamliner and is reminiscent of an old-fashioned train car.
During the 1930s and 1940s, Sterling Streamliners, designed with the streamliner trains, were manufactured to be used as diners. Only a few remain in the United States.
Modern Diner, however, stands out from the crowd as the first diner to score a spot on the National Register for Historic Places.
Stroll through the front door and into another era. Slip into one of the booths of this diner, built in 1940, or grab a stool at the counter for a real throwback experience.
Be sure to bring cash because, like back in the 30s and 40s, the diner only accepts cash. However, there is an ATM on site. (You’ll have to pay associated fees, so keep that in mind.)
Modern Diner dishes up both breakfast and lunch in hearty portions, so you’ll leave delightfully full. Before you grab the menu, take a peek at the more than two dozen daily specials posted on the wall.
