The Mill Street Inn is located in the heart of Newport's Historic Hill neighborhood, where it holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
The building's foundation dates back to the early 1800s, when it was a large woodworking shop that supported the gilded age building industry. The building belonged to J.D. Johnston, who built many of Newport's famous mansions.
The original building was destroyed by a fire in 1890, but Johnston rebuilt it using brick.
At the same time, you'll notice all the historic details that remain -- in fact, the renovation project arned an American Institute of Architects Design Award for the sensitive Adaptive Reuse of a historic structure.
