In the late 1700s, a local merchant named Samuel Church settled in the Adamsville area. He must have done quite well there, because in 1814, he had a magnificent mansion built that remains one of the most prominent homes in the area to this day. And if you’re so inclined, you’re welcome to spend the night there.
The current owners purchased the historic Samuel Church Estate in 2016.
In 1905, Thaddeus Church bequeathed Samuel’s estate to his great-niece, Claudia, and her husband, Dr. Hathaway. Legend has it that Dr. Hathaway and his good friend, Abraham Manchester, got into quite a dispute. Dr. Hathaway had this tower built out of spite to block Manchester's view of his home from his store, causing him to miss his cues that dinner was ready. There's probably not much truth to this tale, but i's fun, nonetheless.
