Take This Road To Nowhere In Rhode Island To Get Away From It All
Considering that Rhode Island is only about 37 miles wide and 48 miles long, the concept of Rhody road trips is a little silly. We’re lucky enough that pretty much anywhere we go, with the exception of the islands, is just a few minutes away and always under an hour. This makes finding some longer routes extra important for taking a quiet solitary drive to escape for a bit. Few routes compare to the beauty of scenic Route 1A.

It follows Route 1, the state's historic divided highway, throughout its course.

It spans all the way from scattered sections in Rhode Island's cities like Pawtucket and Providence through the state's main coastal region.

The gorgeous Atlantic views are unmatched and the route becomes increasingly beautiful throughout Washington County.

The blend of historic and contemporary attractions you drive by are certainly unique and diverse, such as the Narragansett Indian Monument near the beaches.

You'll also drive by several parks and nature reserves that are perfect to stop in to for a stroll through some of the state's most gorgeous offerings. Two that shouldn't be missed are Ninigret Wildlife Refuge (pictured here) and Burlingame State Park.

This route, which spans almost 40 miles, ends in the Misquamicut and Watch Hill area, but you can continue the route in Connecticut to extend the lovely drive.
