11 Reasons Why Rhode Island Is the Best State in New England
When people think of New England, the first state to come to mind may not be Rhode Island. If anything, people tend to dismiss Little Rhody for being just that – little – and focus instead on the mountainous glamour of Vermont or the coasts of Maine. Here in Rhode Island, we know they’re making a big mistake. Rhode Island, in our opinion, is undoubtedly the best state in New England. Here’s why.
1. We have the most gorgeous mansions in America.
It's impossible to beat the stunning grandeur of Newport – there's nowhere else in the country like it.
2. We set our rivers on fire.
The rest of New England doesn't have anything that comes close to the beauty and magic of WaterFire - with the beautiful skyline in the background and the gorgeous reflections of flames on the water, it's awfully hard to beat.
3. We know that chocolate milk is deeply inferior.
Coffee milk is where it's at! Though we may not all agree on Autocrat or Eclipse syrup, we can agree that this is the best flavor of milk.
4. Block Island outshines other New England islands
We think Block Island is the most beautiful island on the East Coast – much better (and less overdeveloped) than Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. A vacation here really feels like an escape.
5. We have the most beautiful beaches anywhere.
Rhode Island has the best beaches in New England - perfect for both swimming and for off-season strolls to watch the sunset.
6. We've perfected seafood
The rest of New England hasn't caught on to the magic of clam cakes, but we can't figure out why. They're the perfect form of seafood!
7. Providence is a perfect little city.
Not too big or too small, and home to business, higher education, and plenty of restaurants and shops, Providence is a city with a lot to love.
8. We know how to have fun
Rhode Island never ratified the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) – and we still know how to have a good time. Rhode Island has more than its fair share of breweries, cocktail bars, theaters, and more.
9. We have a long history of patriotism.
Rhode Island is home to the oldest memorial to fallen soldiers in America, and Bristol is host to the longest-running Fourth of July celebration in the country.
10. We have the best pizza in the region
Whether you prefer Rhode Island party pizza or the really authentic thin-crust Italian style, you can find it in Rhode Island.
11. We're perfectly located
It's easy to get from Rhode Island to states with bigger cities like Boston and New York, but after you get your fill of excitement you can come back to the most beautiful and perfect little state there is.
