There’s a new place to drink beer in Providence, and we couldn’t be happier. But while the brewery’s location is new, the beer’s history goes all the way back to 1890. And what a wild history Narragansett Beer has.

Narragansett Beer has been around since long before Prohibition -- and the company had to do a few creative things, like sell artificial ice, to keep the doors open during that time.

In the early 1980s, the brewery was shut down and production moved to Indiana. Fortunately, lifelong Rhode Islander Mark Hellendrung rallied a group of investors to bring it home to Rhody.
Narragansett Brewery just opened a new Providence brewery and taproom, which sits across from India Point Park.

This much-anticipated space spans 18,000 square feet.
On those beautiful New England days, nothing beats sitting on the patio, sipping a beer and taking in the views of Narragansett Bay.
