We all love a good view of the water right? The only thing can make it better is being on the water while you’re admiring it. Rhode Island has so many gorgeous spots for boating of all kinds, but something we’re big fans of is a good kayaking adventure. One great spot for this is Wallum Lake.

Wallum lake offers the unique experience of being able to kayak between states. The southern half of the lake is found in Burrillville, Rhode Island, but the northern half is located in Douglas, Massachusetts.

This peaceful lake is over 322 acres wide. Or 5.3 miles from one end to the other. If you were to kayak from Burrillville to Douglas and back again it would take around five hours.

There is a boat launch of either sides of the lake, and picnic tables on the Douglas Massachusetts side that are perfect for a break in the middle of your trip. Or if you want to get your land legs back, take a short walk on one of the hiking trails.

That said, almost 11 miles of kayaking is an awful lot! You can also paddle a smaller section of the lake and still see so much beauty.

The water is clear and free of vegetation that might tie up your boat. The Douglas side of the lake offers stunning forest views, and the Rhode Island side has lots of lovely summer cottages to admire. We really think this lake should be a bit more talked about, but also there is something nice about how peaceful and quiet it is,
