Spend A Night in Jail At This Unique Rhode Island Inn
Generally speaking, most people don’t plan or look forward to a stay in a jailhouse – and they aren’t exactly the most romantic of places. But there’s one converted jailhouse in Newport that you absolutely won’t want to leave!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Newport's Jailhouse Inn is housed inside what was once the city's actual jail, built in 1772. But this seasonally operated inn will certainly not make you feel like a prisoner!
Thanks to its architecture, there are some unique touches, like the split double, which is technically one room but the two beds are separated by a bathroom (complete with bars, of course).
Even the breakfast room, where you'll enjoy a delightful meal in the morning, has some touches of prison in the decor. But somehow it all blends together and feels charming rather than ominous.
Of course, if you need to remind yourself that you're not actually trapped, you can relax on the porch with a good book. The inn is perfectly located in walking distance to all that downtown Newport has to offer, so you're sure to make the most of your sentence – oops, we mean your stay.
