Fort Adams State Park is located in Newport, at the base of Newport Harbor.

The park is best known for hosting the annual Newport Jazz Festival and Newport Folk Festival.
Fort Adams, which is named after President Adams, is a former Army post that dates all the way back to 1799. In fact, it was established on the 4th of July of that year.

The original fort was established as a First System coastal fortification. The current Fort Adams was built 1824.
The fort was most active from 1841 - 1950. But due to the length of time it existed, it was utilized during quite a few wars.
