The 10 Best Hiking Spots In Rhode Island Show Off The Ocean State

The Ocean State offers more than just the beauty of the sea and outstanding beaches (though that’s a pretty dreamy combination in and of itself!). Stunning state parks, glorious nature preserves, and incredible hiking trails are found all over Rhode Island! In fact, my fondest outdoor memories involve a few days on the North/South Trail hiking through the entire state, and taking in amazingly diverse and breathtaking views. If you’re searching for a hike through magical dense forested areas leading to waterfalls or walks along the seaside rock formations (or even small boulder fields), you can find it all and more with the best hiking spots in Rhode Island.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

The hundreds of trail options located at all of these parks and public lands will bring out the explorer in you. What is your favorite hiking spot in Rhode Island?

What are the best waterfall hikes in Rhode Island?

When it comes to waterfall hikes, head to Harrisville! This little village is located in the town of Burrillville, so you can enjoy a stroll through history before you arrive at the man-made dam that creates this scenic cascade. In South Kingston, you’ll find Kenyon Mill Falls just a short walk from the Kenyon Grist Mill. The Ben Utter Trail in Exeter takes you to our state’s most famous waterfall – the Stepstone Falls. (If you’re more of a road trip kind of person, you’ll love this Rhode Island Waterfalls Road Trip!)

What are the best beaches in Rhode Island?

One of the big perks of living here is the ability to go to the beach at just about any time! Next time you’re craving some salt air, check out a few of our favorites beaches. Watch Hill Beach in Westerly is an amazing spot to catch a sunset. Crescent Beach might be a ferry ride away because it’s on Block Island, but it’s totally the place to go when you need a getaway! If you want to hit the waves, Easton’s Beach is the place to go for a day of surfing in Newport. If you’re trying to find that quiet hidden gem spot to lay out your towel, check out Goosewing Beach in Little Compton.

Which state parks should I visit in Rhode Island?

Rhode Island has a whole lot of wonderful state parks — especially considering we’re such a tiny state! If you want to try camping on the beach and waking up to sunset, visit Fishermen’s Memorial State Park in Narragansett. The hike through Beavertail State Park in Jamestown shows off stunning coastal and lighthouse views, and Rock Point State Park is the place to go if you enjoy birding. No matter what you hope to find out in nature, Rhode Island has a state park that will feel tailor-made to your sense of adventure.
