Rhode Island’s Oldest Flea Market At The General Stanton Inn Is Still Going Strong
Living in Rhode Island sometimes means dining, sleeping, shopping and working in some pretty old buildings — after all, we are home to the oldest tavern in the country. The General Stanton Inn is no exception, having roots that go all the way back to the 1600s. These days, we know it best as the site of Rhode Island’s oldest flea market. And despite this year’s challenges, it’s still going strong and is open for business.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

Originally, this property served as the home of Thomas Stanton, who started using it as a schoolhouse for local Native American children (and Stanton's own children) but was eventually turned into an inn.

After 200 years in the Stanton Family, the General Stanton Inn was sold and has changed hands a few times. However, an effort is always made to preserve the charm and history of the property.

But you may end up learning more about the place than you bargained for. People who have stayed here have reported experiencing strange noises and apparitions, and many believe the place is haunted.

This is Rhode Island's oldest and most continually operated flea market, and it's better than ever.

This also happens to be Rhode Island's largest flea market, so come prepared to shop until you drop.

There's truly something for everyone.

The local food trucks will ensure you don't have to shop hungry.

Admission is free, but you won't want to leave empty-handed.
