The Authentic Cuisine At Dolores In Rhode Island Will Transport You Straight To Mexico

Believe it or not, taking a trip with your taste buds is a worthy substitution for the real thing, at least for a while. We’re lucky to live in a state like Rhode Island, which has some pretty diverse cuisine. And if it’s the delicious taste of Mexican food you’re craving, look no further than Dolores in Providence. This fairly new eatery brings the taste of Old Mexico straight to your mouth.

Dolores is located on Hope Street in Providence, in a little building that's impossible to miss.

The restaurant was opened in late 2019 by the same family who owns El Rancho Grande, which has been open for about 13 years.
This is the restaurant the Meza family has always wanted to open.

While the food at El Rancho Grande is delicious, it's also a bit Americanized. The family wanted to feature the true taste of Mexican cuisine at this eatery.
The restaurant actually took several years to open — so long that the original chef they hired returned to Mexico.

These days, it's truly a family-run eatery. Joaquin Meza, the oldest son of the family, is the back of the house manager, while his mother, Maria, is the cook.
Dolores features contemporary and regional Mexican cuisine from the Mixteca region of Puebla and Oaxaca, where the family grew up.

And while it might not look or taste exactly like the Mexican food you're used to, we assure you — it is fantastic.
The menu does have a fairly long list of tacos as well as some other creative entrees.

There's even a section of the menu dedicated entirely to moles.
Quesadillas and tostadas are also available, if you need something other than tacos but want to stick with something you know.

And we can honestly say you can't go wrong with any menu item here. Just make sure to save room for dessert.
Dolores is open for dinner from 4 - 9 p.m. (10 p.m. on Saturdays) every day except Tuesday when they stay closed to rest.

Takeout is also available. In fact, you can order your entire meal online.
